Been out getting the most from the beaches and whats left of this summer. Its getting windier but alas, the sun is still out. Other than that, all I have been doing is scrolling through pages after pages of hotels, goggling for train routes in Europe, letting edreams do all the work of finding the best fares and calculating and attempting all the possible combinations of cities to visit. It's official! We are off for another trip to Nordic and Central/Eastern Europe. yay!!

and ps. that cutey lil' pie from the last post is our little niece. ;)

101 ways to flap dem wings

Here are our 101 ways to wear diy shoulder pads - well, as many as we can come up with for now. It was a self-inflicted challenge that we promised from a few posts ago.

Let me just say, this was actually such a super fun post to do - we went through all our clothes, dug out all our pieces, and actually put heaps more effort and time into getting the looks together. Oh yes, we also got a new tripod, so this was our first time using it. No. We won't be doing a review on that. But we do like.

Our favorite look.........it's gotta be number 10. Wouldn't you say??

Berlin: from west to ost

Sorting through the hard drive, we found these pics from the last leg of our Europe trip last January. They're one year late, so let's call it an 'Anniversary' and post these pics up.

I can still feel the chills in my bones, my numbed extremities, Rudolph's nose and the hovering glow of the low angle winter sun plus mad mad shadows and silhouettes of buildings as we moved through the streets !

It was a sights and shopping-packed short stay. Thinking back, it stupefies me that we did do quite a bit.

As we speak, another trip to Berlin may be underway in a few of months time??? *fingers crossed*

Hurrah! We have just doubled our wardrobe space with my sister moving out recently. Of course, no, I'm sad she's gone - but my clothes are very happy. There's just much more room for the air to move around and for us to see every single piece of clothing. This blouse usually gets its place somewhere below two layers of jackets - pretty much forgotten. But I'd like to slowly ease myself into this land of 'one-hanger-per-item'. A little bit indulgent, I know, I think so too.

I found this vintage bolo recently, and I'm obssessed with them. Its just such a natural alternative to a necklace! I'm particularly obssessed with the freaky shell. Don't call the dept. of conservation on me now, but any guesses what kinda shell this might be? if its a shell at all.

We really loved all your comments about our diy shoulder pads a.k.a 'the wings'. Some of you asked how we made them - well, we pretty much based our shoulder pads on the instructions from anywho.dk and just basically added our own touch with the lace. But if there are any questions at all, we'll be sure to answer them on our next post.

I've just had one of my most productive weekends ever. Got up early on Saturday morning, caught a ferry with one of my dear friends for a trip to Auckland's 'vineyard island', Waiheke (a definite must-see for anyone heading down this way).

Our day at the island: rented out a Mx5, zoomed n stalled all through the hilly roads, hiked our way to a lonely beach, took 3 u-turns to the vineyard at the far end of the island, saw some cute alpacas for the first time ever (in NZ?? and it ain't even in the zoo), gobbled up fat juicy olives, missed the ferry back, went for a short kayak until the next ferry arrives.

Then we topped it off with Ginger-kiss gelato.

terminally grounded.

Finally, with the Christmas/summer break, I had the time to do some diys like I've been intending to for a long time now. I was all set to do the 'shoulder-pads' with fringe and all à la anywho and vanillascented but once I hit the haberdashery store and saw this roll of lace, I was sold.

Now that I've got myself a set of new wings, I can't wait to do a post - it will be coming up very soon - I'm gonna try and wear these wings as many ways as possible and document the results - it will be quite a challenge. Check back to see what we can come up with. For now, I'm gonna learn to fly.

summer nightfall

8PM - AUCKLAND, NZ, SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE
Yep, this is the kind of rays we get at this time of day. Thanks to the long summer days, the sun is still blazing low in the west. This sun - its good for us - extended hours where we can take photos, we're not too swift with the night shots as of yet.

I was so excited when this skirt arrived after new years. We placed the order a while ago at Audrey Cantwell's store, as one of our 'Christmas' presents to ourselves. This is by far one of my favourite silhouettes as of late. And the MOST fun to photograph with. I spent all my time playing with the drape and the way the low sunlight hits.

Tisci's Swan

Ranya Mordanova, muse of Riccardo Tisci. Known for her swan-like neck. I never really knew what that meant until i saw a pic of her in profile. She stood out most because of her grace, innocence, and dainty frame - she's kinda boyish but not androgynous - if you know what i mean - softer round the edges??

She is noticeably smaller than the others, yet its amazing how frequently they use her on the runways. Maybe it's cause when she walks, she gives this other-worldly aura. Her presence at the end of the runway just captured us. We just wanted to see more!

(Yep, we have been watching ftv a bit too much lately.)

follow the yellow brick road

Thank you lil Tom* for wearing these cherry docs in for me. You know how I hate the new-doc look and feel - so tough against the feet. Swiped these off a local trading site, secondhand (or third). Just the way I like em'.

Truth is, Auckland in the New Years is pretty dead. Everyone leaves the city for our coastlines. So in the metropolis, we have less than average fireworks, quiet streets, favorite cafes - closed and surcharges on all the ones that are open. Oh and not to mention,
surcharge on ice-creams too!! A crime we all know. Good thing that's over, I was growing slightly more depressed every second, remembering our insane time in Madrid during New Years last year.....

aliens + predators

Finally, it is the debut of my boots. This blog has been a Burberry virgin until this post. Its my prized possession from my recent trip to New York. It was a big challenge to track-down. Apparently they were so sought after that they never even hit the Burberry stores I checked out in NY. After multiple phone calls and pestering pleading to the floor staff at Burberry, they worked their magic and to my luck, they found a pair in my size.

Till this day, i still pinch myself.

EXPLOSIONS to end a decade.

What other way to end 2009 than with an overload of inspirations and things we have coveted over the year. Saying this, we had quite a bit of difficulty defining 2009, because a lot of these things we will still covet tomorrow and it's 2010 - and - wait, wasn't that from 2008??

One word to sum it up (or 2):

EXCESS, vulgar EXCESS!

Breathe it. Smell it. Hear it. now.

while we wait for the snow to begin.

Here's the tune that's going on in our head down here in the southern hemisphere this Christmas. We have grown quite accustomed to going away to wintry places at this time of year. To be honest, this Christmas of summer has felt quite strange to us. Really, it feels more like the official start of the summer break rather than any Christmas. We try to make the most of it sipping Sangria and welcoming an imaginary snow storm whilst listening to Bright Eyes.

Hope you all are having a ball of a Christmas!!! and how are you rocking in this New Year?

finger-wares.

We could never have enough finger embellishments! These clawed-jewels are waiting to join the pack on my knuckles. They're Digby & Iona's. We checked them out at their store and immediately fell in love with their gadgetry. (I mean a pistol ring?!?!?! you gotta check it out.) And apparently if we say the secret code HOLIDAY at the door from now till new years, they'll shave a-fifth off your bill. That's 20% off by the way. They also make some pretty steam-punkish themed and quirky adornments.

I figure the one on the right would make a pretty good gift for my bff.
